 When did life start? Life on earth started approximately 3.7 billion years ago with the creation of a cell that had the ability to reproduce. How does evolution happen? Evolution is a mutation that happens when copying the genetic code, it creates variation which makes it a population. The mutation that affects the organism positively is likely to pass it on to there offspring who will continue to pass it on. The population will end up with those characteristic. What is mutation? Mutation is a variation or error while copying the genetic code that can give results that are positive, negative, or that don't make a difference to an individuals way of life. If it is a negative mutation than the individuals mutation will likely die of with it, but if it's a positive mutaion then the individual will most likely prosper and survive, therefor have alot of offspring which will result in a new characteristic that will spread through the population. | What is evolution? What is genetic drift? Genetic drift is when organisms from population with variation (different hair colour, hight, skin colour, ect.) is isolated from the rest of its kind, this will cause it to take a different evolutionary course than the rest of the population that was not isolated. | Why does evolution happen? Darwin's theory
Darwin's theory is that every organism on earth comes from a common ancester, that evolution comes from natural selection and that only populations or species survive.
What makes a species?
For something to be a species you need as follows:
-There must be more offspring than will reach adulthood.
-None of the species must be the same. There must be variation.
Inteligent Design
Inteligent design is the belief that some species are too complex to have come from natural selection since natural selection consists of, step by step changes which would be almost impossible since each characteristic of the species should have a use. Inteligent design claims that there had to be inteligence to create complex traits therefor it believes that some species were created by an intelligent agent.
