The Quark
What is the quark?
The quark is an elementary partical and a fundamental constituent of matter. Quarks combine to form hadrons (neutrons, protons, etc.). Quarks can only be observed within hadrons. There exists six different quarks known as flavors: up, strange, down, charm, bottom and top.
Every quark experiences all four fundamental interactions: gravitation, electromagnetism, weak interactions, and strong interactions.
Ex. A proton is made of two up quarks and one down quark.
What is an up quark?
The up quark is the lightest of all quarks it is a type of elementary particle and, a major constituent of matter.
What is a down quark?
The down quark is the second-lightest quark, it is a type of elementary particle and, a major constituent of matter.
